Miss Ardith Gale, Archivist of St Cuthbert's College, did not come in on the eleventh of June. She had not been well; several people said so afterwards, in the way people do. She had no family that anybody could find, and no will that anybody could find, and the college solicitor spent four months on it and got nowhere.
